On May 10, 2019, Antheion Extra Virgin Olive Oil won a Silver Award at the New York International Olive Oil Competition (NYIOOC).  It is the largest international olive oil competition in the world and the most prestigious.  It is also the second time Antheion has won at this competition, two years in a row.  This is a great accomplishment for a brand that started in late 2017.

I have recently decided to replant and expand my family’s olive groves for future increased production, and thus I source olive oil for Antheion.  After having tasted several olive oil samples from various areas of Greece, I settled on this particular olive oil from the award winning Papadopoulos Olive Mill in Olympia, Greece.  I had also tasted several samples from this mill and settled on this particular one.  It is an olive oil created from the harvest of some of the best family farms of Greece.

The NYIOOC so far has been the only olive oil competition that I have participated in.  This oil and last year's oil have only been sent to this competition and both oils have won awards.

Antheion Extra Virgin Olive Oil won Gold at the New York International Olive Oil Competition (NYIOOC).   This was the result of countless hours of planning and hard work.  Needless to say, I am both excited and honored.

This win has given me the inspiration to greatly ramp up production this year.  Being a first year brand, it was a large investment in money, time and effort to create and submit the trademark, design the label and choose the bottle, create a website, and upgrade the process of producing an EVOO product from the more local traditional method that involves filling product into large tins and selling locally.

Furthermore, additional improvements in process will be implemented.  Especially in terms of storage and likely filtration.

To be honest, it was my first year using a modern cold press facility.  And the stellar results show it - it's a different EVOO - there's no going back now.  The olive in Kefalonia has a lot of potential, and I believe this potential is being reached and can get even better.

The Antheion brand is not owned and managed by a corporation, but me, an individual.  But I am not alone.  A close circle of peers have offered me tremendous help and guidance along the way.
